For Spring/Summer 2012, fashion designer Jeremy Scott and adidas Originals will launch an all-new collection of footwear and apparel inspired by American pop culture and the urban jungle. Included in the collection are western styles, animal prints and music inspired graphics on selected apparel and footwear pieces, all mixed with standout branding and designs of the 3-Stripes brand.

Playing a prominent role in this collection is the American flag, which appears on fetish wear-inspired pieces that include track tops and sneakers. The JS Flag Swimsuit figures to be a hot style for women this summer, designed with cross-cross straps to accentuate curves and inspire poolside patriotism. Each stars and stripes style can be complemented by a matching pair of JS Wings 2.0, treated to a split flag design between the right and left shoes.

Scott also drew inspiration from the cowboy, one of the main American icons. Leather fringes on a Firebird track jacket and a full leather biker jacket painted in gold give a unique western touch to selected archive adidas Originals pieces.

Other footwear options being served up include a new denim-based pair of the original Wings model, the jungle-inspired JS Leopards, cowboy-inspired JS Pony SLM and chunky, high boot silhouettes for women.

The adidas Originals by Jeremy Scott product line will roll out globally to selected accounts and adidas Originals stores in February and March 2012. The collection comprises 35 apparel pieces and 19 footwear styles for both men and women and kids.

With its direct fuel injected flat-6 engine, electrical system recuperation, thermal management and engine start-stop function, Porsche expects this model will achieve approximately fifteen percent greater fuel-efficiency than its predecessor. The standard Boxster gets a 2.7-liter flat-6 in place of its previous 2.9-liter engine, and an increased peak output of 265 horsepower, while the Boxster S’s 3.4-liter now produces 315 horsepower (improvements on the current models’ 255 and 310 respectively). Coupled with a 7-speed PDK dual clutch (instead of the six-speed manual), Porsche says the Boxster will accelerate from 0-to-60 kmh in 5.4 seconds, and the Boxster S in 4.7 seconds.

The Volkswagen E-Bugster Concept electric twin-seater coupe is Volkswagen’s offering at the Detroit Auto Show this year. A fully electric slicked up version of the beloved Beetle, this concept car weighs in with a 695-pound lithium-ion battery pack in the rear and an electric motor that together produces 85 kilowatts (114 horsepower) with 199 pound-feet of torque.

Its charging port is found under the hood’s large VW emblem, and an under-hood plug enables Levels 1-3 charging, i.e. 120-volt, 240-volt and quick charges respectively. In quick charging mode, the E-Bugster can achieve 80% charge in merely 30 minutes. Utilizing both powertrains, drivers can expect jaunts of approximately 100 miles between recharges.

The original Venom GT had a price tag of USD$950,000 and this new Spyder version comes at a lofty price of USD$1.1 million. Hennessey's Performance Engineer CEO, Don Goldman said that with this open-air model gives driver an even better driving experience. While the specifications for the Spyder are currently unavailable, I have a gut feeling that this Spyder is destined to boast somewhere in the area of 1,200 horsepower!!!

Brabus unveiled at Germany’s Essen Motor Show, its Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. The 571-horsepower Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster base model were not distinctive enough, Brabus powered it up with its version generating 611 horsepower via a reprogrammed ECU and much lighter redesigned titanium exhaust system. Now in its 3rd year, the TOKL Food Awards proudly partnered by American Express, builds on the firm success of the event in 2010, when more than 30,000 KL-ites joined together to select their favorite restaurants, kitchens, mamaks, chefs and restaurateurs as part of Kuala Lumpur's biggest public choice dining awards.

Now for 2011, it happens all over again and the competition is even tougher. Nominations have been running for 6 weeks on www.timeoutkl.com as today TOKL reveals the top outlets shortlisted for this year's prizes.

100% independent and reader voted, there are 16 categories split into cuisines, plus Best New Restaurant, Restaurateur of the Year and for the first time the ultra-competitive and original Blogger's Choice Award, featuring many of city's top food bloggers.

Nomination began on 1st August 2011 at www.timeoutkl.com with open irks for each category to allow foodies to select their favorites free of influence or bias. After 6 weeks of open polls and a rigid verification procedure by TOKL adjudicators, today The Shortlist is announced. Voting will begin 6pm on 20th September 2011 to determine the eventual winners. As with nominations, voting will take place exclusively at www.timeoutkl.com, with each category now comprising a 'drop down menu' of the outlets that have received the most votes in the open nomination stage. Voters choose their favorite from the list.

All votes from Stage 1 have been carried to Stage 2 and again verified at the end to ensure no unfair play, and voters cannot vote multiple times on the same day. The outlet with the most overall votes will be declared the winner at a Special Awards Ceremony in late November just prior to the release of the December 'Food Awards Special' Issue of TOKL magazine.

Since the opening of Mochi Sweets in Pavilion, I have been buying a box back every time I visit Tokyo Street. They come in an assortment of 12 flavors. I love Green Tea, Red Bean, Mango Yogurt, Sakura, Strawberry and Peach the most.

They cost RM4.00 each and comes in a box of 6 and 12.

Honda Mugen Civic Type R!

About Chef Jamsari bin Mohammad

Influenced by cuisine from a young age, Chef Jamsari has his grandfather to thank for, for where he is today. He grew up assisting his grandfather, who cooks at various kenduris in the kampong. Mostly for wedding celebrations, his grandfather’s specialities include daging masak hitam, rendang, nasi minyak, nasi briyani and others.

His other happiest memory when it comes to food is when his mother used to cook for him and his siblings. Acar rempah and chicken curry never fail to remind him of his hometown, Jasin.

Chef Jamsari started his culinary career in a 5-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur. After 5 years, he joined the culinary family of the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel in 1998 as its First Commis. In 12 years, Chef Jamsari climbed the career ladder to become the hotel’s Malay Chef today. Malacca Portuguese Cuisine

BENG NAKI KUMI! Translated into English, ‘Beng Naki Kumi’ simply means ‘Come here and eat!’ This is a phrase that Mel (short for Melba) heard often growing up, and still uses today with her children and grandchildren.

Simply Mel’s uses a ‘Patui Card’ as its logo. ‘Patui was a game played by the Malacca Portuguese community, and Mel’s mother Mercy would organize Patui Card games and practically the whole town would attend, more for the delicious food than anything else!

Mel takes after her mother, and her grandmother Mama Rosa, who both had a passion for food. Not just eating it, but more so making it. Mel has been cooking and baking not just for her family, but for friends and charities as well.

As a young girl growing up in Malacca, she would spend her days helping her mother cook, bake and serve food at their humble home.

Her very first cooking experience was baking a Ginger Cake. She picked up a book called "Sally's Recipes” and has never looked back!

Times are changing, and Mel realized her heritage and family traditions were slowly disappearing and on the road to being forgotten. With the support of her husband and children, she embarked on a mission to preserve her heritage, and celebrate the family recipes that have been passed down over 4 generations.

Simply Mel’s opened its doors to the public on July 15th.

Mel's Malacca Laksa

In addition to Mel’s Signature dishes like Chicken Curry ‘Devil’, Mel’s Chicken Pongteh, and Mel’s Malacca Laksa, you’ll find local inspired dishes like Nasi Lemak Assam Prawn and Nasi Lemak Serai Chicken. There are also recipes that are unique to her family, using only the freshest ingredients and the utmost of patience.

Some highlights from the a la carte menu, launching September 1st 2011.

Chicken Seybah

Among the Eurasian community, this dish is cooked with pig ears and belly. However, it tastes just as good with chicken! Traditionally, Seybah is served during parties and special occasions like Christmas, birthdays and home parties because it goes well with beer and alcohol.

Mel makes her Chicken Seybah by braising her chicken with onions, garlic and two types of soy sauce. The chicken is cooked until the sauce caramalises and forms a thick layer on the skin. It is then cut into thin slices and served on a bed of lettuce, "tau pok" and cucumber and topped with a smothering of Mel's homemade chilli sauce.

Crab Stuffing

This is a real delicacy! Crab shells stuffed with shredded fresh crabmeat, diced turnip, carrots, prawns and onions. The stuffed crab shells are first fried and then baked and served hot and fresh. Mel remembers very fondly going through the process of peeling, stuffing and frying the crab shells with her mother. This dish is served with a side of Mel's homemade chilli sauce.

*Every order of crab stuffing is made fresh, so expect a wait time of about 15 minutes.

Black Sotong Sambal

Don’t let the colour frighten you! It’s really quite delicious! Mel remembers her grandparents, Rosa and Vincent, cooking this sotong regularly. The recipe was passed down to her mother and finally, to Mel.

The squid is slow cooked in a spicy sambal, with the black inkbag untouched. As it simmers over a low fire, the inkbags gently burst because of the heat, and colours the sambal black. It gives the sambal an intense savoury flavour.

Keluak Curry

A very popular dish among Eurasians and often cooked at home. The keluak nuts are hard to come by so Mel’s sources them from a supplier in Malacca, who gets his high quality Keluak from Indonesia.

The Keluak nuts are cooked in a sourish curry with chicken. Many people are not aware that you have to dig out the contents of the fruit to enjoy it to its fullest. The outer shell is hard while the inner contents are soft, almost like a velvety paste with a hint of nuttiness. It is an acquired taste - you may or may not like it. Mel's style of eating Keluak is to dig out all the paste from the nuts, mix it in her rice with a generous ladle curry, and mix it up and enjoy it - Dali Kumang! (translates to ‘Eat with your hands’)

Keluak Sambal

The contents are removed from the shell and fried with a spicy, tangy sambal and prawns.

Fish Sambal Binagre

The sambal is cooked with vinegar (Binagre). It’s a spicy, sweet-sour sambal that goes will with a variety of fish. Black pomfret, mackerel or "ikan kurau" are among some of the fish that is usually served with the Binagre sambal on top. This dish was normally served on Fridays because Mel's family abstained from meat on that day.

Ox Tongue Semur

Not many people know how to eat ox tongue, so the Beef Semur was cooked more often, and eaten with toasted bread as more of a ‘drinking’ dish. The Semur is basically a stew with a vinegar base. Mel simmers the ox tongue for hours until it is tender, and has fond memories of eating this as a child.

As part of the special edition Black Series range, Mercedes-Benz has upgraded the C63 AMG coupe with a brand new model. Weighing nearly 44 lbs. less than its original counterpart, the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series features a M156 6.2-liter V8 engine that boasts 510 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. Sitting much lower than the standard C63 AMG with widened tracks and forged wheels, the model also features modified shift mapping with the AMG Speedshift MCT meaning gear changes in Sport + and Manual modes takes just one tenth of a second.

With an estimated market price hovering somewhere around USD$90,000, it is expected to ship to Europe in January 2012 while China and the U.S. will get deliveries in March 2012.

KAWS x Hennessy V.S. Cognac Limited Edition Bottle!

From an artist on the streets to full-fledged gallery showings and toys, KAWS’ latest project involves the storied cognac producer, Hennessy. This artist collaboration features a meeting of Hennessy’s tradition with the progressive and iconic aesthetics of KAWS on a limited edition bottle of V.S. Cognac.

In celebration of Medicom Toy's 15th anniversary, this specially designed edition of Mickey Mouse figurine was based off the classic 1937 episode entitled “As The Worm Turns”. Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her North London home of suspected of drug overdose. 5 years ago, she took home 5 Grammy Awards for her multi-million-selling album, Back to Black. All the while, she had been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and had a recent stint in rehab this past May to prepare for her latest tour.

The troubled singer had been in and out of rehab multiple times, even singing songs about how she would not go. Unfortunately yesterday, the Daily Mail broke the news that Amy Winehouse was found dead in her flat at the young age of 27. She has joined the Legendary '27 Club' where the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain are now in. Truly a sad weekend to have lost such a young singer.

The Daily Mail reported:

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: 'Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

'On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

'Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.’

GOD Bless U, Amy! Rest In Peace... You will be loved by all for eternity.

The infamous Gumball 3000 is an annual race that has taken a different 3,000-mile route down many public roads every year since its birth in 1999. Less than a true road rally but more of a travel experience where Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Bentleys, Paganis, Bugattis and many more get to brush shoulders in exotic locales – the event is truly about a “rich & famous lifestyle” more than winning or losing (since there’s no official time-keeping).

Thus, this makes a perfect sense for watch brand, Nixon whom has collaborated with the race in the past; would have team up with the Gumball 3000 to create a custom Magnacon timepiece in order to honor this year's event. Inspired by the fashion sense of legendary Seattle grunge rocker Kurt Cobain, the sneaker is based on the relatively lesser seen Jack Purcell Mid. While Cobain’s affinity with Converse has long been documented, the Mid was a model that probably didn’t have the opportunity to grace his feet unlike the more ubiquitous original Jack Purcell and All Star.

In celebration of the Audi's 10th victory at the Le Mans, Audi has announced the release of a limited edition R8 model. Built in with satellite navigation, an interior lighting package, Audi Music Interface and a Bang and Olufsen sound system, Audi has certainly pulled out all the stops. However, it still maintained the base coupe’s 430 horsepower, 4.2-liter V8 engine, this new model will also feature a special titanium-effect paint with matching wheels.

Additionally, Audi’s standard metallic and pearl effect paint options will still be available. With a base price of £93,935, this limited edition Audi R8 will be released first in the UK.
